Located on a hill overlooking Gaepyeong Hanok Village, this place is popular as it serves as a filming location for many movies and dramas, including “Mr. Sunshine (2018).” It is a unique traditional hanok (traditional Korean house) complex with tile-roofed houses and thatched houses, presenting guests with a quiet night stay at hanok. It consists of Jeongilpum, Traditional Room, Hakseondang, and Chwiundang, with a total of 10 rooms. In particular, thatched houses are a traditional architectural form that is difficult to find elsewhere, so staying over at least once is recommended. It is also famous for its Korean table d’hote restaurant. The traditional Korean food made with seasonal ingredients is served only to in-house guests.

Gaepyeong Hanok Village is where more than 60 large and small hanok (traditional Korean house) buildings with over 100 years of history are located within a traditional atmosphere. The village was named Gaepyeong using the letter gae (meaning “stuck between”) as it is situated between Deokgaecheon Stream and Silgaecheon Stream. Visitors can observe the typical form of Gyeongsang region’s yangban (aristocrat) house in this village, known as the hometown of scholars and writers since ancient times. The historical House of Ildu, which stands out first when entering Jigok-myeon where Gaepyeong Hanok Village is located, was also used as a filming location for dramas such as “Mr. Sunshine (2018)” and “Toji, the Land (2004).” The scenery of the stone walls, in harmony with the antique hanok, offers a calming sensation. In addition, visitors can participate in various experience programs, such as pressed flower craft, dasik (tea confectionery) making, and walking on trails held throughout the village, as well as gochujang (red chili paste) making at Roh’s Old House of Gaepyeong-ri, which has the oldest anchae (women’s quarters) in the village.

Solsongju is a liquor distilled after steaming pine sprouts picked from the mountains around Gaepyeong Village from April to May and fermenting them with hard-boiled rice in the crude liquor. It has been introduced several times as a toast at summit dinners and international events. Solsongju Cultural Center, located at the entrance of Gaepyeong Hanok Village, is a space that informs the history and tradition of Solsongju. Park Hong-seon, an Intangible Cultural Property holder with the secret of Solsongju passed down for more than 500 years, has operated this cultural center with her husband for nearly 30 years. Visitors can experience a variety of traditional liquor, including Solsongju, made using traditional tools; Nokpaju, an herbal liquor of the Goryeo period; and Damsol, a rice soju, and you can also try tasting them. These can be consumed as is or as various cocktails. There are four types of cocktails in the cocktail-making experience: Damsol Julep, Solbaram, Damsol Tea, and Damkok.

Barae-gil Road gets its name from the belief of Namhae families that the ocean provides us with everything we need. The road was designed to provide means of exercise, as well as provide life experiences through participating in activities along the way, such as farming and fishing. The Daraengi Jiget-gil Trail section stretches along the coast from Pyeongsanhang Port, past Sachon Beach to Daraengi Village. The trail affords views of the incredible natural scenery from the ocean waves pounding onto the pebble beaches to the terraced fields of rice. The trail spans 16 kilometers and takes around five hours to complete.

The Hanok Experience Center in Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, offers guests a taste of old-time hanok life. Rooms are furnished with traditional items, while the spacious wooden floor can be used as a meeting room. Rooms in the sarangchae are on the small side but have an upper floor with scenic views. The room in the annexe building has a traditional sleeping mat surrounded by a large folding screen, and feels like a scene from a historical drama. King Suro founded the Garak Kingdom in AD 42 and married Heo Hwang-ok, a princess from the Indian country of Ayuta, in AD 48. He was the founder of the Gimhae Kim family. Heo Yeop, a Yeongnam governor, gave the tomb its current look in the 13th year of the reign of King Seonjo (1580). The tomb compound includes various buildings, including the Sungseonjeon (where the ancestral tablets of King Suro and his queen are kept), Anhyanggak, Jeonsacheong, and Jegigo, as well as stone structures, such as a sindobi (tombstone) and gongjeokbi (monument established to pay homage the deceased). The tombstone in front of the royal tomb was built in the 25th year of the reign of King Injo (1647) of the Joseon dynasty. The name Sungseonjeon was bestowed on the tomb by King Gojong in the 21st year of his reign (1884).

Sureungwon Garden is a place themed around the meeting between King Suro, the founder of Gaya, and Queen Heo, who was the princess of Ayuta Kingdom, known as India. The name Sureungwon Garden also contains the meaning of an elegant forest where King Suro and Queen Heo walked together. An ecological park measuring 39,600 m2 has been created along a low ridge that connects the Tomb of King Suro, an important cultural heritage of the Gaya period; the Ancient Tombs in Daeseong-dong, the tombs of the Gaya kings; and the Bonghwang-dong Historic Site. It was created by representing the maritime kingdom of Gaya,  imagining a pond of the garden where King Suro and Queen Heo used to walk, and planting prickly waterlilies and yellow floating hearts that are believed to have inhabited wetlands in the Gaya period. Trails along the cozy forest and pond make it easy to look around comfortably.

The Museum of the ancient tombs in Daseong-dong displays artifacts unearthed from the four excavations of the Daeseongdong Tumuli. Highlighting often overlooked relics of the Geumgwan Gaya, the museum has three ground-floor exhibit halls and several underground auxiliary facilities. The main exhibits include a life-sized statue of a mounted soldier and a warrior statue, both recreated based on bones excavated from the tumuli of Yean-ri. The museum relies heavily on videos and dioramas to help visitors explore all the museum has to offer.

Parkjinsa Gotaek in Cheonggwang-ri,Goseong is an old house of Miryang Park Clan which is #292 Cultural Material. The traditional Korean style house shows the construction method of houses during the late Joseon Dynasty. Three generations of Sungkyunkwan officials were born in this house in a span of 100 years. There is a red gate of award of the king erected at the entrance of the house to cite the devoted son. The old wall of the house, which looks like a fossil bed, demonstrates the long history of the house. The well-tended garden near the gate will make you stop walking because it looks like something straight out of a movie scene. The scenery over the window from any place inside the house is as pretty as a picture. The rooms in the house are composed of 2 Anchae (inner buildings) and 4 Sarangchae (outer buildings). Both Anchae and Sarangchae are equipped with restroom and shower room. The kitchen is only in the Anchae building. Sarangchae can be used as one wide room to accommodate a maximum 10 people; it’s done by simply opening the doors dividing the small rooms. The house is used for paid educational programs of traditional tea ceremony and etiquette. The old warehouse has been remolded to be a classroom for tea ceremony classes. The place is also used as a place for events; it’s equipped with a beam projector and sound equipment for hosting seminars, workshops, etc. There is a tea ceremony room made by remodeling a building attached to Sarangchae where you can learn the wisdom of ancestors over a warm tea.
