A witty historical comedy set in 1931 Korea, At That Time, Byeonhongryehas been named one of the “Best 3 Plays of the Year” by the Korean Theatre Critics Association and invited to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Spain’s Teatro Figaro. Adding to its charm, the performance welcomes audiences with freshly popped popcorn, while spectators are encouraged to bring their own beer.
The plot is based on the sensational “Byeon Hong-rye Murder Case.” When a young woman is found dead at a company residence, her husband is accused, but the truth spirals into mystery.
The play’s hallmark is its unique silent-film style: actors perform with only gestures and expressions while others voice-dub and create live sound effects on stage. Audiences experience both the drama itself and the behind-the-scenes process of making it, resulting in a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
