The Cheonan region has been a transportation hub connecting the southern areas of Korea with Seoul. Such a concentration in traffic and goods naturally led to the formation of the market. Cheonan Jungang Market, which continues the history of Cheonan’s traditional market, today handles Cheonan specialties like Byeongcheon sundae, Seonghwan pear, Ipjang grape, and hodu gwaja (walnut cakes), along with plenty of food and agricultural goods.

Cheonjin is a Chinese restaurant near the Cheonan Terminal. It has been passed down generations after being founded by a second-generation Hwagyo (member of the Chinese diaspora in Korea). The restaurant offers authentic Chinese dishes in its lunch and dinner courses. The course menus include Cantonese Shark’s Fin, jeongabok (stir-fried assorted seafood), yangjangpi (starch sheet salad with mustard sauce), and gochujapchae (chili pepper japchae), culminating in jjajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodles) or other noodle dishes and fruits as dessert. There are also a la carte menus like jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), udon, and tangsuyuk (deep-fried pork with sweet and sour sauce).
