In the 1960s, a newspaper serial is halted by the police, bringing to light the long-lost legend of the “The Fighters of Joseon.” Set in 1937 during the Japanese occupation, it follows the story of Yi Hwa, a boxer too afraid of defeat to step into the ring, and Yohan, a fighter who keeps getting knocked down but always rises again, as they come together to create a legend.

“The Fighters of Joseon” asks what true victory means through the meeting and transformation of two young boxers who couldn’t be more different, exploring what must be held dear in the midst of a national tragedy. Seen again from the perspective of thirty years later, it hints that the legend we knew was not the whole story, raising questions about the real lives behind those remembered as heroes.

“The Fighters of Joseon” stands out for its boxing matches, brought to life as immersive performances combining the actors’ movements with music and lighting. As the characters trade punches, their narrative and emotions intensify, immersing the audience into the story beyond the fight itself. The work reveals that their fights were more than mere sporting events—but rather acts of defiance against the times.
