Cheonhamu-Bbongis a one-person show reviving Korea’s traditional “storyteller (iyagi-kkun)” performance, where the narrator constantly interacts with the audience to co-create the tale. In this modern adaptation, the viewers become active participants, lending voices and taking roles onstage.
The story is based on the popular Korean folktale The Farting Daughter-in-Law, about a woman expelled for her uncontrollable fart who later uses it to pluck fruit from high branches and becomes wealthy. In this retelling, heroine Lee Bbong-sun lives on a planet where farting is forbidden, but boldly escapes in search of freedom.
Blending playful humor with social satire, the show reimagines the folktale as a story of a woman resisting societal repression. With invitations to the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York and Hollywood Fringe Festival in LA, it has been acclaimed internationally for its originality.
