The Muju Firefly Festival is one of Korea’s leading environmental festivals, themed around fireflies, a designated Natural Monument in Korea, and Muju’s pristine natural environment. Held throughout Muju-gun each year from around late August to early September, the festival offers visitors a special opportunity to see fireflies glowing in the wild and appreciate the value of nature and the importance of preserving the ecological environment. During the festival, visitors can enjoy a wide range of ecological and environmental activities, traditional cultural events, performances, and nighttime attractions. A signature highlight is the Firefly Mystery Exploration, Muju’s unique program that takes visitors directly to firefly habitats to witness their magical glow in the wild. The experience leaves visitors with unforgettable memories. The Muju Firefly Festival has established itself as a celebration of the value of coexistence between people and nature, while raising awareness of the importance of environmental conservation.
