Uljin Euneo Bridge is located at the mouth of Namdaecheon Stream, adorned with sculptures inspired by sweetfish on both sides. The area around the bridge is the largest habitat of sweetfish in Korea, and visitors can see sweetfish returning to the river from the sea in September and October. The sight of the school of sweetfish swimming resemble waves of water glistening with sunlgiht. Uljin Euneo Bridge is also famous as a sunrise and sunset spot, and its proximity to Uljin Beach and Mangyangjeong Beach makes it easier to take a look around the whole area.

Mangyangjeong Beach is a relatively shallow and narrow beach with a comparatively higher water temperature among beaches on the east coast of Korea. It has a lush pine forest, perfect for walking, and the surrounding areas tend to be very quiet. There are many tourist attractions around the beach, including Seongnyugul Cave, a Natural Monument; Buryeonggyegok Valley; and coastal roads, making it a popular sightseeing and vacation spot. Nearby sites also include Mangyangjeong Pavilion, one of the Eight Scenic Sites of Gwandong; Expo Park, Freshwater Fish Experience Center, and Sunrise Park, the venue for Uljin’s annual county-wide sunrise event for catching the sunrise over the East Sea.

⊙ Yeonjiri Bada Hoetjip Daege (연지리 바다횟집 대게)


Yeonjiri Bada Hoetjip Daege located near Uljin Port specializes in snow crab and assorted sliced raw fish. It offers a wide variety of fish, from ridged-eye flounder to sea bream and sea bass, and other seafood such as sea cucumber, pineapple, conch, and scallop. The signature menu of this restaurant is snow crab and snow crab with the sliced raw fish set. The set comes with steamed snow crab and assorted sliced raw fish. Another specialty is cold raw fish soup, which is a cold soup made with finely sliced fish, squid, and sauce. It is often eaten in summer and served in seaside seafood restaurants. Different regions have different takes on this dish, but all feature a sweet-and-sour flavor with plenty of sliced raw fish and vegetables. Keep in mind that prices of sliced raw fish tend to differ according to the season.

⊙ Uljin Bajige Market (울진 바지게시장)


Bajige Market is located in Uljin-eup, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is the oldest market in Uljin, and its facilities have been going through gradual renovation since 2016. With more than 150 vendors selling seafood, produce, and food, the market attracts large crowds that can cause traffic jams on days ending in 2 and 7, when the market is held.

This restaurant offers a dish called “daege jjabagi” made with snow crabs. “Jjabagi” is a Gyeongsang-do dialect term for “jjageuri,” a dish made with snow crab meat, intestines, claws, and legs simmered in a thick broth of soybean paste and red chili paste. It is said to be a dish invented for preserving and enjoying snow crabs over a longer period when refrigeration was less common.

Coffee BAANG is located within 1kilometer from Mangyangjeong Beach serving coffee made with beans roasted on-site. The coffee menu features different brews and even decaffeinated coffee, offering a wide range of choices. One can also find large tables for groups. The cafe is also famous for its remarkable view, thanks to the window wall facing the sea, so you customers can refresh their mind with a cup of coffee and the view here. Various castella cakes (original, strawberry, tiramisu, chocolate) are available as an accompaniment to coffee.
