Every year, Pohang, known as the “City of Fire and Light,” hosts the Pohang International Fireworks Festival, one of the city’s signature cultural events. The festival began in 2004 as a fireworks display held to celebrate Pohang Citizens Day. Its theme was inspired by the “light” of Pohang’s steel industry and the “fire” of its blazing furnaces. Over the years, the festival has grown into an international event featuring leading fireworks teams from around the world. More recently, it has expanded beyond fireworks to include media façade shows, nighttime parades, and other cultural and artistic programs that reflect the city’s industrial identity. With Pohang’s coastline and urban spaces as its stage, the festival offers residents and visitors plenty to see and do. It also helps raise Pohang’s profile and boost its competitiveness as a nighttime tourism destination.

With an area of 406,613.4 m² and a length of 1,750 meters, Yeongildae Beach is the largest beach on Korea’s eastern coast. Along with Songdo Beach, it is known as one of the most popular beaches in Pohang. It is a great place for families and friends during summer vacations. The beach has several lodging facilities and restaurants that offer fresh seafood and hoe (sliced raw fish) nearby.

Pogaljib is a restaurant known for grilled beef galbi in Duho-dong, Buk-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Its signature dish is Pogalsal (Pohang galbi), and other dishes include the grilled beef tail, grilled boneless short ribs, and Pohang galbi ramyeon. An order of more than four servings per table comes with a Pogal Offal Soup or Pogal Galbi Soup free of charge. The basic table is nothing to scoff at as well, with delicious dishes like chilled acorn jelly soup, spicy marinated crab, and vegetable wraps. There may be a waiting line, but the wait is worth it. The restaurant is located near Yeongildae Beach, Yeongildae Observatory, and other tourist sites.

Pohang Marine Park Character Theme Park is located in Songdo-dong, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. This new landmark of Pohang aims to move toward the future of the maritime tourism city. In the park, there are characters such as Turning Mecard, Hello Carbot, SofyRuby, and Gaspard et Lisa. At night, there is a musical fountain that spouts water with colorful lights. Additional sightseeing spots include the Pohang Canal, Songdo Forest Theme Street, and Jukdo Market located nearby.

Simin Jegwa is located in Daeheung-dong, Buk-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is a bakery-cafe that opened its doors in 1949. Over the years, Simin Jegwa built a loyal following in Pohang and beyond. Its historic value as the first bakery in Pohang was recognized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. The signature menu items are the 1949 Danpatppang (bun with red bean filling) and the 1949 Chapsaltteok (sweet rice cake with red bean filling). Other famous baked goods include the jeongguji ppang (chives bun), a soft bun filled with Pohang chives; canelé, a French pastry made with plenty of butter and vanilla beans; and Geomjeong Gomusin (black rubber shoes), a bun made with French gourmet butter and fine red bean paste.
